This quote describes a drink without the coconut, as Pina colada was originally just the juice of fresh pineapple served either strained (colada) or loose (sin-collar). This developed into a rum drink, and eventually turned into drinks that we know today.

beverage of Puerto Rico has become a popular choice of Coco-Loco, a mixture of milk cream, coconut rum and coconut served in a fresh coconut macheted. When the supply of oil was halted by the strike, the reason Ricardo Gracia make an executive decision to move the material from the Coco Loco-sunken in the pineapple (pineapple cutters union clearly 'not followed by a strike of their own). After the taste of coconut and rum came into contact with the sweet acidity of the pineapple pulp, which is definitely born Pina colada.

Barrachina, a restaurant in Puerto Rico, also claims to be the birthplace of Pina colada:

    "In 1963, a trip to South America Mr Barrachina met another popular Spaniard and bartender Mr. Ramon Portas Mingot Don Ramon has worked with the best locations in Buenos Aires and associated with 'Papillon' the most luxurious bar in Carcao. And also acknowledged for cocktail recipe book Pepe Barrachina and Don Ramon developed a great relationship .. When working as a bartender at Barrachina major (a restaurant in Puerto Rico), Ramon mixed pineapple juice, coconut cream, condensed milk and ice in a blender, make a delicious and refreshing drink, known today as the Pina Colada.


This cocktail has been famous in Puerto Rico since 1978, and it became more widely known after Rupert Holmes released the song "Escape", commonly known as the "Pina Colada Song".
